DEAR FRIENDS,

Welcome to the SIXTH (wow!) edition of the Rollins Report-- a newsletter to update you on all that is happening on the campaign trail!

CANVASS, CANVASS, CANVASS!

In the few past weeks, we've been putting boots on the ground daily throughout Suffolk County. We've knocked THOUSANDS of doors - no matter rain or shine! Rachael offers her deepest gratitude to our awesome volunteers, because without you, none of this would be possible.

ENDORSEMENT CORNER -
THANK YOU BLACKSTONIAN!

Rachael is enthused to be endorsed by such a significant local news source, only adding to the remarkable support, grassroots or otherwise, that our campaign is receiving!

"Rachael Rollins has clearly emerged as a front-runner for Suffolk County DA. Rollins has dominated forums to date and has racked up some impressive endorsements. She has received press attention and has shown favorably in local polls. Her confidence and competence is clearly evident when she speaks. Her legal, professional and organizational background, as well as her personal story, is compelling. I am pleased to endorse Rachael Rollins for Suffolk County DA."

DORCHESTER DAY DELIGHT!

On June 3rd, Team Rollins had the awesome opportunity to march in the 114th Dorchester Day Parade! Rachael loved meeting new constituents as well as working with our energized swath of volunteers who shook hands, held signs, and showed up to spread our message of equity and justice for all. Rachael was born in Dorchester and she was honored to be a part of this notable community tradition.

In order of appearance: Our wonderful group of volunteers at the Dorchester Day Parade; Rachael with her mom, Esther, and dad, John; More volunteers with Rachael on Dorchester Day.

PROUD TO BE AT PRIDE!

This past Saturday, Team Rollins got their Pride on at the Boston Pride Parade. We danced, we met with voters, and most importantly, we stood in solidarity with the LGBTQIA community. Our Field Director, Dakota, a self-identified queer woman, had so much fun working with our volunteers to show their support for Rachael. It was a tremendous event! Participating in Pride was simply another way for us to demonstrate how Rachael believes the Suffolk County’s DA office should be working for all of us, no matter how you identify.

In order of appearance: Rachael and her adorable dog, Cassius; Rachael strutting through the streets of Boston; Team Rollins at Pride.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE AT THE DA DEBATE

This past week, the MA ACLU, in conjunction with the "What A Difference A DA Makes" campaign, hosted the first Suffolk County District Attorney debate at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury. In her opening statements, Rachael advocated for "a criminal justice system where someone from Mission Hill gets the same treatment as someone from Beacon Hill". She also reminded the audience that she has experience with all facets of the criminal justice system- something that truly differentiates her from any of the other candidates.
In her closing call-to-action, Rachael remarked: "We have a chance to change the way things are. We need to get excited about this. I want you to help me be the person to change this office."

See the live video here. (You don't want to miss it!)

IN THE NEWS!

Team Rollins is always out and about in our community, therefore, it's no surprise that Rachael has been featured in the news quite a bit recently!
The Jamaica Plain News posted a two-part (Part 1Part 2) article interviewing all five of the DA candidates. The ACLUM debate was covered by The Boston Globe and Commonwealth Magazine; click the links and check them out!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: CHALOEA WILLIAMS

"Given Rachael's experience as a state and federal prosecutor, commitment to public service, understanding of the roles mass incarceration and the criminalization of poverty, mental illness, and addiction play in destabilizing communities, and Rachael's vision for transparent and progressive criminal justice reform, [I am] excited to support and volunteer for Rachael's campaign for Suffolk County District Attorney." - Chaloea Williams

Chaloea Williams first met Rachael during a reception hosted by the Massachusetts Black Lawyer Association ("MBLA").  Rachael, who served as President of the MBLA at the time, inspired Chaloea and other aspiring lawyers in the room to utilize their legal careers to serve all members of the greater Boston community.

Chaloea is a lawyer in Boston, MA.  Previously, Chaloea was a senior associate at WilmerHale LLP, where she maintained a robust pro bono practice, including appearing on behalf of a family facing eviction from subsidized housing, representing asylum seekers, and motion practice on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union in support of the Boston Police Department’s body-worn camera pilot program

DEAR FRIENDS,
Welcome to the fourth edition of the Rollins Report-- a newsletter to update you on all that is happening on the campaign trail!

RIGHT ON TARGET!

We would first like to extend a massive THANK YOU to all of Team Rollins--with your help, we've surpassed the $100,000 fundraising benchmark! Rachael could not do this without your support and we are overwhelmed by the scores of community members that are #RollingWithRollins!

MONICA CANNON-GRANT ENDORSES RACHAEL!

In the past month, The Activist Hour Radio Show with Monica Cannon-Grant and Calvin Feliciano has hosted the candidates for Suffolk County District Attorney. After careful deliberation and public commentary, Monica Cannon-Grant has chosen to endorse Rachael! We are so excited to have the support of such a significant community activist and leader.

CELEBRATING WITH OUR HAITIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS

This past week, Team Rollins attended several events hosted by the Haitian community here in Boston. On Friday, Rachael celebrated Haitian Flag Day at the Haitian Flag Breakfast in downtown Boston. We continued our support of the Haitian community when we marched in the Annual Haitian American Unity Parade on Sunday. Rachael enjoyed the amazing local entertainment, food, and music!

MEETING COMMUNITIES WHERE THEY'RE AT

We also spent our weekend getting to know a wide-range of communities throughout Boston. For example, on Saturday, Team Rollins arrived in Charlestown bright and early to better the community with the Boston "Love Your Block" program. We continued to meet even more Charlestown residents, despite the rain, as we canvassed the neighborhood to spread Rachael's message!

REAL LIVING LEGENDS

In addition to cleaning up and canvassing on Saturday, we were also overjoyed to have the opportunity to visit with two trail-blazing, history-making legends: Congressman John Lewis and Thelma Burns! Rachael acknowledges the importance of respecting those who came before us so that we can make the future even better.

BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND (YOUR NEXT) WINNER

On Thursday, Rachael spent the day getting to know constituents from across Suffolk County. Her first event was the Salesian Boys and Girls Club Breakfast, where she had a blast! Her second event was the Dorchester Day Parade of Seniors Luncheon, where she was able to spread her message to every table, as well as meet up with Little Miss Dorchester and Mayor Marty Walsh!

THE FUTURE IS FEMALE

Rachael also spent her week meeting up with old (and new) colleagues across Massachusetts. Northeastern Law's annual Women In Law event was held this past Friday and Rachael enjoyed meeting so many other strong, powerful women. On Monday night, Rachael attended the MA ACLU's "Bill of Rights" dinner and met Patrisse Cullors, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter. Rachael is honored to be surrounded by so many inspiring women!

Rollins Report 5/17/2018

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the THIRD edition of the Rollins Report-- a newsletter to update you on all that is happening on the campaign trail! Things have been moving along wonderfully, and Rachael has been very busy and is so excited to share these updates with you.

SENATOR BROWNSBERGER WEIGHS IN AND ENDORSES RACHAEL!

Massachusetts State Senator William N. Brownsberger, a main architect of the sweeping criminal justice reform bill passed last month, decided to weigh in on this important race. Cognizant of the fact that the next DA will be tasked with carrying out the legislation he has worked on for years, Sen. Brownsberger carefully assessed the candidates in this race and made his selection.

Brownsberger stated, "Rachael Rollins offers strong leadership, a deep commitment to public safety, and a full appreciation of the need for reform. She is the best candidate for the job."

ADAM FOSS SELECTS A CANDIDATE IN THIS RACE!

Former Suffolk County A.D.A. and international powerhouse criminal justice advocate, Adam Foss endorsed Rachael this week. Adam explained: "Rachael brings together the best of what this city and county can be. We need a skilled and passionate leader, someone who has a vision to make the community better and to improve relationships between the community and law enforcement.  Someone to give a voice to the often voiceless. Rachael is that person, and I am proud to endorse her.”

Rachael is so honored to have the support of key criminal justice leaders in our community and far beyond.

 Rachael with Adam Foss

Rachael with Adam Foss

This week, we received amazing news from Voter Choice MA! Rachael won the straw poll conducted at the April 9th JP Progressives' Candidate Forum. The community has been coming out in droves to be #RollingwithRollins and we couldn't be happier!

On Sunday, May 13th, we walked in solidarity with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute for the 22nd Annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace. Founded on dignity and compassion for all families impacted by murder, the Walk for Peace continued to be a monumental event this year.

As a member of the community, Rachael is outraged by the continued threat to our city's families. As a mother, she is concerned for our children's futures. And, as a foster mother, Rachael feels protective towards our most vulnerable populations. She grieves with these mothers and stands tall with them against gun violence.

One of Rachael's key initiatives as your next District Attorney is to fully prioritize the nearly 1000 unsolved homicides in Suffolk County. These families deserve justice and Rachael is dedicated to addressing these issues while in office.

Last week, Rachael took part in many community events including: the Mother Caroline Academy and Education Center's initiative to put together backpacks for students in Puerto Rico, College Bound's Dorchester Gala where Rachael supported the youth of Suffolk County, and the Boston Foundation's screening and forum for the documentary This Ain't Normal. She also visited Ward 8 this week to spread her message of justice and equity. Rachael is working hard to remind youth of their worth and the community that we still have work to do.

Rollins Report 5/9/2018

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Rollins Report - a newsletter to update you on all of the exciting things happening on the election trail!

Last week, Rachael was featured in BC Law's magazine after serving on a panel hosted by the school's Black Law Students Association (BLSA) with Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and Attorney J.W. Carney at its annual conference. Carney, Commissioner Evans, and Rollins spoke on the need to change cultures in the DA’s Office and on the police force, and advocated shifting success metrics and paradigms to focus on engagement and justice, rather than convictions. “We need more people in the room with different perspectives,” Rollins said. “That’s how things get better.

Rachael's kickoff was held last Tuesday and brought members from all over the community together to celebrate the official start of her campaign. Over 150 people came out to show their support, reflecting the true diversity of Suffolk County. Esteemed guests like former Justice Geraldine Hines, Boston City Council President Andrea Campbell, Boston City Councilor Kim Janey, former Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson, former Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and Adam Foss were in attendance. Justice Hines, President Campbell, and Foss have all officially endorsed Rachael! You can watch the full live stream video of Rachael's kickoff HERE!

Last week, Rachael took part in the second DA forum at Suffolk University Law School hosted by Boston Wards  3, 4, and 5 Democratic Committees and moderated by Meghan Irons of the Boston Globe with opening remarks from Rahsaan Hall of the ACLU. Rachael was able to present her platform and prove that she is the best candidate for the job and the most qualified to shift the culture within the office and implement change! You can watch the full live stream of the debate HERE!

Finally, Rachael was excited to receive an endorsement from The Real Justice PAC. Founded by social activist Shaun King, Real Justice is a leader in the national and growing movement to reform our criminal justice system. Rachael is humbled and energized by their endorsement.

Thanks again for all of your support, and we look forward to sharing this experience together. Let's roll!

Rollins Report 4/17/2018

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the #RollinsReport!

We want to thank you for pledging your support to Rachael's campaign for Suffolk County District Attorney. We've had a busy couple of weeks and wanted to keep all of you in the loop with the weekly #RollinsReport.

Our most recent Day of Action in Roxbury, JP, Dorchester, and Chelsea was a huge success! Supporters from all over Suffolk County came out to help collect signatures to get Rachael on the ballot. Every signature we collect and every person we talk to gets Rachael one step closer to victory in September.

#RollingwithRollins Day of Action in Roxbury, JP, Chelsea, and Dorchester

#RollingwithRollins Day of Action in Roxbury, JP, Chelsea, and Dorchester

On April 9th, we participated in our first forum hosted by the JP Progressives and Boston NAACP. “We have prosecutors who don’t look like the people they’re prosecuting. We have police officers who don’t look like the people they’re policing. And we need to do better.” said Rachael. Rachael’s dedication to revamp the criminal justice system of Suffolk County was highlighted during the forum. You can read more about the forum in the Baystate Banner and watch it here.

Later in the week, Rachael hosted a gathering of woman attorneys in the Boston area. She then headed over to the Boston News Network as a guest speaker on "Talk of the Neighborhoods." Make sure to watch her interview here.

Rachael spent the weekend meeting and talking with the people of Suffolk County at a number of community events.

She served as a panelist at the Boston College Black Law Students Association (BLSA) conference along with Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans. Her panel titled "Community Policing: Law Enforcement, Urban Neighborhoods, and The Ties That Bind Us All"  focused on how to improve the relationship between civilians and law enforcement in Boston.

She stopped by the 6th Annual Got Peace Basketball Tournament at the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College. Rachael was proud to honor these fine, young athletes and connect with the event coordinator and community icon Big Time, Governor Charlie Baker and MBTA Transit Police Chief Ken Green. Then, she headed over to the Roxbury Neighborhood Assembly hosted by Boston Ujima Project, Right to the City, Reclaim Roxbury and ACE (Alternatives for Community and Environment)!

On Sunday, Rachael started off her morning at Morning Star Baptist Churchin Mattapan with Bishop John M. Borders, III and Boston NAACP President Tanisha Sullivan
